Our Trees - Learn about the common and exotic trees in Harrow Rec.

These days almost everyone would agree that “trees matter”, but how well do you know the trees in our park?  Would you like to know more and appreciate their diversity:  maybe learn about where they come from? how they come to be in the UK and in our park? their cultural significance, medicinal, manufacturing and construction uses?

We at HRUA have been running our popular tree walks for some years now, in the company of our expert "dendrologist" John Wells. But now, more help is here! as, 2023 we launched our Tree Awareness and Labeling project to help you.

You may have already seen the results of our first project phase: small black labels attached to some of our native and exotic trees - with common and scientific names, and a QR code linking to more information. Also, in 2025 we marked the 75th anniversary of VJ day by rededicating our Far East Prisoners of war memorial tree and plaque.

Now we are working to build on that progress, with new tree trails for adults and children.  We have also inaugurated the "Tree Stories" page on this website, with all sorts of engaging information about some of the individual specimens that we have in our park (link below will take you to that page).
